Humor and Social Satire Novels:

The novels included have been read by Peter, and these are his reviews.

Breakfast of Champions, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

The first Vonnegut book I read and first modern novel too. This was his most popular book. A good start to understand his time traveling techniques and a good way to get to know some of Vonnegut's reoccurring characters. It is social satire and Vonnegut is very well known for that.

Cats Cradle, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

The characters are all dragged together in a myriad plot about Ice Nine, with the existence of radiation and plutonium this is the direction that science fiction took into serious literature. The various references to god in many Kurt Vonnegut novels show the true idea of novel. This is such a flashy book, so many of the ideas come to life in the imagination, aided by doodles in the book itself.

Sirens of Titan, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

A neighbor thought that the little character on Titan at the end of the book represented Christ, certainly the leaving the earth of the main character is prophetic in the novel. I still remember the long drawn out description of the launch pad. The humanity possible between men and geometric reality of spaceships are explored in a humorous little aside plot.

Player Piano, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

The first glimpses of suburbia and the High Tech valley are seen in this setting where the humanity of the characters is presented as inventors and the push for computers and machines that play chess.

Welcome to the Monkey House, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Slaughter House Five, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

WamPeters, Foma and Granfallons, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

This was the book that made me want to be a writer because it's not a novel but rather a look at the authors writing career and includes a lecture he made.

Venus on a Half Shell, Kilgore Trout.

Mother Knight, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

God bless you, Mr Rosewater, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Serious stuff recommended for people needing to get a glimpse into aging and poverty and the inner city, although a few other Vonnegut novels do this too. It has a lot to recommend it.

Slapstick, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Again dealing with out space and the future this novel also deals with Darwin.

Jailbird, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

I was given this book while in an asylum. It is the story of a white collar criminal and his release from jail. Again the time travel is created by the characters memory of his life.

Dead Eye Dick, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Palm Sunday, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Hocus Pocus, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Blue Beard, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Galapagos, Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
